Oh, oh.  Now I find that my template has been changed too.  My daughter alerted me & I checked it on another computer.  There is now a background photo on my blog that I did not choose.  It's some kind of road with a bus on it.  Sigh.  I don't know if I did this or if there is a problem with the code I installed.  Before anyone uses the site I linked to, they might want to look for a different tutorial on this.  Either I did it wrong or the code is defective.  Who knows what else it might have done?  Sigh.

I did back up my template before doing all this, so I will probably go back to it to see if I can get back the template I'd chosen about a week ago.  I will  need to find a different way to make the changes to increase SEO.  If anyone has a good tutorial for this I'd appreciate it.

I'm sorry if anyone got problems from the tute I linked to.  I do hope you backed up your template.  I now see why that's so important.

Thanks, Simple Saver, for letting me know it's not a problem with Blogger.  I seem to have some bad code.

I  can't seem to change it back even with uploading my previous saved template.  I'm afraid that there is some bad code in that linked SEO  All-In-One tutorial.  Can someone delete my post with that in there?

Wait, wait… don't panic!

I don't know about the other things, but that picture was there all along.  I can see it on my work computer (big screen) but on my laptop it just looks like a blue background (small screen).

Yes, bright blue sky and then a dirt road at the very bottom.  Like I say, I only say it when I had a big monitor.  I think it is part of the template design.

So weird.  I never put that road there!  I'll have to keep working on it to see if I can fix it.  I wouldn't mind the road so much, but I still  can't move things around on the side bar.  That's aggravating, &  I wonder what else is damaged.  Thanks so much for looking at it again!

Maggie, if you haven't done a lot of customizing you can try choosing a new theme.  You will lose any html changes (so if you set things up to show only on specific pages or switched the blog/post titles, for instance, you will have to start over) but it might be worth a shot.  Just download the HTML before you do it so you can put things back if you want to.

I have a few code-related changes i want to make on my site… have been stalling because I don't want to have any headaches.  Let me just say, the ability to load saved html templates has saved me many times!!!!

Simple Saver, I'm very embarrassed to say that I think this is the template I wanted.  I just had never seen the road at the very bottom before.   I did start over with this template, but the problem with moving page elements on the design page remains.  Have no idea why.  If it doesn't change I can always eliminate them & then add them again in the order I want.  For now, that's not a huge priority.

I feel like a complete idiot, but I will try again with the switching the blog name and the post title as soon as I calm down a bit more.   I really appreciate all your help!

Okay, this is very interesting.  If you started over with the template and it still won't let you move things then the problem definately isn't the code you entered earlier (yeah)!

Here are a couple questions/steps (follow in order presented):

1.) Have you tried using a different browser (for instance, Firefox instead of Internet Explorer)?  I have heard Google Chrome is especially badgo figure!

2.) Are you feeling daring enough to get back into the HTML?  If so, then go to your code and expand the widgets.  Search for the title of one of your widgets (such as 'About Me' or 'Total Pageviews').  Now, within that widget's code, look for the following: " locked='false' ".  If it is there, never mind… if it is not, see if " locked='true' " is there and if so, change it to " locked='false' ."  If this is the case you will need to make this change in the next widget down, too, and then go back to the design view and try to flip their positions.  If the code is already at false than… NEVER MIND!

3.) Check out the Blogger help forums… you can see if anyone else has had this problem or pose a new question.  it could be a Blogger error though I have not heard anyone else talk about it.  http://www.google.com/support/…..#038;hl=en

Keep me posted!

Wow, Single Saver, thank you so much for all of this.  I'm just too burned out by it right now to try.  But I will soon.  Thanks for being patient with me!!!!!

Maggie, don't let it bum you out.  Messing with the code can be stressful, but as you get more familiar with things it will get easier.  In the end, it is very rewarding to be able to make your site look customized.

Start looking at your site's HTML and you will start to be able to make more sense out of how it is made up.  For instance, each widget's code will be contained within the <widget>…. </widget> tags.  Anything between those tags deals ONLY for that particular widget.  Also, you may notice on my site that I have a lot of widgets without names (like the "Advertise here" graphics) because I don't want a title to appear above them.  However, if I want to work on their HTML I will addign a temporary title as it makes it much easier to find them in the code.  For instance, I may name it TEMPWIDGET and then I can go to the HTML and search for TEMPWIDGET and immediately find the code.  I make my changes and then go back and remove the title.

If you look at my site there is a lot of customization.  Some is easy and some is hard.  The hardest thing I did was diding the harder into two boxes – sorry, I don't think I could help you with that as it still confuses me!  The rest of the custom stuff was pretty easy, though.  it just takes time and patience.  Anyone here will be happy to help if we can, I am sure.

I like blogger. Keeping it simple has allowed me to focus on the writing rather than the design, and I've been pretty happy with the simple template for allowing some customization while keeping me from having to learn too much about html as I've started.

Question for you Single Saver! What template do you use in Blogger? Was it one of the built-in ones or did you import a new one?

I'm also on blogger – I had no interest in messing around with my own hosting.  You guys have compiled some great resources here that I've been looking for after reading so many wordpress-oriented tutorials.  I'm going to try to go through tonight and get the favicon straightened out and maybe the related posts widget that was featured in one of the links.  Thanks!

sounds good. Let me know if any questions come up. Make sure to also switch around the way that your post titles are showing up in search engines. Remember that you want your article title first, then blog name.

Well I think I got the post titles switched and the related posts widget is installed. Couldn't get the meta tags stuff to work with the post title fix and didn't get around to the favicon – save that for another day.

My post titles now come ahead of my blog titles when I open posts on the blog, but the search engine results still have the blog title first.  Will that take time to update?

Any suggestions for keeping the HTML neat?  Mine's starting to look like a big mess and I've forgotten how to make comments.
